81st D-Day Anniversary Today

June 6, 2025

On June 6, 2025, the world will pause to remember one of the most pivotal moments in modern history—the 81st anniversary of D-Day. This day, forever etched into the collective memory of freedom-loving people everywhere, marks the beginning of the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944, a turning point in World War II and a triumph of courage, strategy, and unity.

D-Day, codenamed Operation Overlord, saw over 156,000 Allied troops—Americans, British, Canadians, and forces from other nations—land on five beaches along the heavily fortified coast of France. The mission was daunting, the stakes immeasurable, and the cost severe. Thousands of soldiers gave their lives on that first day alone to push back the tide of tyranny and begin the liberation of Europe from Nazi occupation.

For the Scottish Rite and Freemasonry at large, D-Day is more than a moment of military history. It is a living testament to the values we hold sacred—duty, honor, sacrifice, and brotherhood. Many Masons stood among the ranks of the Allied forces, guided by the same principles we uphold in our lodges: service to humanity, courage in adversity, and unwavering faith in the dignity of mankind.

As we mark the 81st anniversary, we reflect not only on the heroism displayed on the beaches of Normandy but also on our responsibility to carry forward the legacy of those who served. Their sacrifice demands more than remembrance—it calls for action. It challenges us to live lives worthy of the freedom they secured, to stand firm against tyranny in all its forms, and to build a world guided by justice and peace.

Across the country and around the world, commemorations will include ceremonies, reenactments, and moments of silence. Yet, for members of the Scottish Rite, every day is an opportunity to honor the spirit of D-Day by living according to our Masonic ideals.

Let us remember those who stormed the beaches, those who never returned, and those who came home to build a better world. Their deeds echo through time, and it is our solemn duty to ensure that the lessons of D-Day endure—not just in history books, but in our hearts, our homes, and our brotherhood.
