Famous Freemason: James Polk

Here in the United States, next Monday is Presidents’ Day, the day when we stop to remember the Commanders-in-Chief that have served our nation. Of course, the President alone cannot run the government and relies on a cabinet of advisors to assist them. One hundred seventy nine years ago the cabinet photo was taken of President Polk and his cabinet. In honor of this and the upcoming holiday, let’s explore the life of President and Brother James K. Polk, a Famous Freemason!


Bro. Polk was born in a log cabin in Pineville, North Carolina, to Jane and Samuel Polk on November 2, 1795.

Mark your calendars, the next Family Life Adult’s event is coming up! On Friday, April 25, 2025, we’ll travel to the top of the Prudential Building for a night of food, drinks, and fellowship. Roughly 750 feet above the world below, you’ll get a panoramic view of the entire Greater Boston area including Cambridge, the Charles River, and the Harbor Islands. Valentine’s Day

Don’t forget to bring something special to your loved ones today for Valentine’s Day!


The holiday is named after the Christian Saint, Valentine. Common tellings of St. Valentine’s story are set when marriage was banned in the Roman Empire by Emperor Claudius II. St. Valentine continued to marry young lovers despite the law and was punished with a beheading, which is said to have happened on February 14. However, some scholars attribute the holiday as a Christian retelling of the Roman holiday of Lupercalia, which happened with many of our current holidays.
